Richie Sambora - Stranger in This Town
Posted by: DealerCamel
Video duration: 377 seconds
From Richie Sambora's 1991 debut solo album, the title track, Stranger in This Town.
This song gives off an almost "Wanted-Dead-Or-Aliv e" feeling, except, of course, without the famous intro. Or, of course, maybe it's just me.

Richie Sambora - Church of Desire
Posted by: DealerCamel
Video duration: 372 seconds
From Richie Sambora's 1991 debut solo album, Church of Desire.
This track combines the classic Bon Jovi theme of connecting possibly soulful themes to love (Borderline, Wild is the Wind, Fear, etc.), with Richie's own artful twist on the matter, which produces a much more mature sound than anything Bongiovi himself could ever do.

Richie Sambora - Ballad of Youth
Posted by: DealerCamel
Video duration: 238 seconds
From Richie Sambora's 1991 debut solo album, Ballad of Youth.
This is not a power ballad, let's just make that much clear. In fact, far from it. Starting with a near-Italian sounding acoustic intro, it then delves into an upbeat, practically happy-sounding affair. Darn good song, though.

Richie Sambora - One Light Burning
Posted by: DealerCamel
Video duration: 353 seconds
From Richie Sambora's 1991 debut solo album, One Light Burning.
My second favorite song on this album, to be quite frank. From the genius of throwing in the hollow metal sounds at the beginning (anyone know what the instrument's called? I don't quite remember...) to the way Richie sings "Feeling like my heart is beating inside...," it is truly epic.

the young mab from the nitro days... he was more? badass back then

It is true what you're saying - a lot of times, MAB doesn't really seem to know when it's appropriate to shred and when it's not. He's definitely not a one-trick pony, though. If you pick up any of his Speed Lives DVDs and learn to play No Boundaries, Hands Without Shadows, or especially The Finish Line, you see that there's a lot more going on. I think he's gotten so good that by now, he's hurting his own reputation by always? being over the top.

What I'm essentially saying is that MAB has plug n' play type fills and solos. His own songs display a one-trick-pony riff library. Listen to his medleys of cover tunes. I dig 'em, but he'll unnecessarily throw in his same-sounding rip-riffs where there's no artistic call? for them. The way he over-embellishes Randy's 'Mr. Crowley' solo is melodically fine, but it suggests jealousy or insecurity, as if to say 'Look! I can do even better!' The style-over-substance argument will always have merit.

Sweeping is for janitors. Kidding. It's definitely a useful tool for 'tricking' the ear when assessing overall speed. MAB IS a great player. I ignored him for years. His playing is clean and trademark-fast. The 'problem' I have with him is one I have with many other players -- shred for shred's sake. I know it's as simple as not listening if it's not interesting, and the style is defined by speed, but it's worth saying that gratuitous shred? is like showing off big tits: what else ya got?

I was going to say something similar. I've heard him sing before. He's not bad, bit it's not his forte. The controlled vibrato he displays here suggests that he should give? it some more exposure.

for me MAB is one of the speed metal guitarist who combines speed with feeling and melodic riffs... no as that chinese? robot called herman lee who has in his brain a pinball microprossesor

Lot's of musicians don't listen to any of the music in their own genre. It doesn't help? them. It doesn't really mean anything.

Arps are? very sloppy without the 'dampener'
By: redgibson1. on 22 Feb 12, 01:44:13
Speed Kills/Lives sounds damn amazing imo,? but not just because its fast, because it is fast in some parts and slower in others- making a dynamic. it has good chord progressions and melodies and sounds like a piece of music. playing fast is awesome, but that doesnt mean if you play a bunch of shit fast, that makes it good. because thats a bunch of bullshit. and imo in this video MAB just played a few scales in ascending and descending and was honestly to me fucking horrific.
By: PaoloCastilloMusic. on 07 Feb 12, 17:22:23
Music isn't about playing fast or slow. It's about CONTROL. If you wanna play fast, then do so. Wanna play slow? Go ahead. The point is, you should be doing it because you want to and because you're translating to guitar exactly what you hear in your head. Don't ever let scales dictate what you're gonna play (autopilot). Don't ever let your lack of speed prevent you from practicing to play faster licks. MAB is an? amazing guitar player. Haters gonna hate

dude, speed? sucks

There's no lack of feel in the world of guitar; there's only the lack of awareness of artists who play with feel.? There are TONS of them out there -- far more than shredders, I would wager. And shred can sound terrible without decent note choice. I'll take MAB over Kerry King any day. Likewise, I'll take Fabrizio Leo over MAB any day. I do prefer shred to have great phrasing, but I fully appreciate shred for what it is. It's a form of expression, and a great one at that!
By: wonnthree. on 01 Feb 12, 12:45:26
I can play almost as fast as mike but I still believe we need more feeling in our guitar world and less stupid antics..I changed my ways years ago? and am glad...only use speed like Neil schon does..ha has it right

You mean the GNR video and the Sweep picking with the instructor who is clearly not you? Sorry but you are not and you probably never will be as great as Jason Becker was back in his? prime.
By: IxMAKExUxGOxLOL. on 01 Jan 12, 17:39:24
Jason Becker's a paraplegic bro, I don't think he'll be owning anything anytime? soon. However Jason Becker is one of my greatest guitar idols so I do agree that he once upon a time did kick very, very, very, VERY much ass.

...Wait, you're serious!? Oh my god... You must be one of those guitarists who bedroom ''shreds'' and fails, then? goes online to criticize (without any thought of trying to help them improve) other guitarists to make yourself feel better. Man that's just sad...
By: TheBleedingheart11. on 01 Jan 12, 12:32:37
hey dicksucker if you think shredding or MAB solos are pretty easy why don't u upload a video of yourself playin? his solo.... and no offence to hendrix but his name is always used as an excuse by all those who tried and failed to play fast like yourself loser....
