Mesa Boogie Roadster fault?
Posted by: adamscott
Video duration: 88 seconds
Sorry it's sideways but it was done quickly on my mobile phone. It's a Mesa Roadster 2x12 combo and when the reverb is switched on and you change channels via the footswitch there's a rather ugly echo. Perhaps someone with the amplifier could inform me as to whether this is intrinsic to the amplifier just like the notorious ''popping'' noise?

At fi rst this may seem strange, but after? a couple minutes in real world situations you will see that it is preferable to the embarrassing alternative of a loud overdriven crunch chord drowning out your beautiful clean passage in the middle of a breakdown.

NOTE:? It is normal to experience approximately 1-2 seconds of delay before the REVERB is mixed with the dry signal after switching the REVERB or Channels. This intentional built-in delay prevents both switching noise from the hard bypass relays used to isolate the pure dry signal from the effected REVERB signal, and the prior Channels sound coming through the REVERB in the current Channel when switching.

dude there's nothing wrong with your amp, you just have a mechanical footswitch that uses a relay to switch stuff that happens to be before the reverb circuit so that's just the nature of the beast (just make sure you switch on the beat with the kick? drum and no on will ever know)

I use external reverb? now and you don't get any of the lag that I'm getting in the video. Either that or you have to play around turning the reverb on and off after about ten seconds after changing channel which isn't practical as any live performer knows. Verbzilla by Line 6 is a good pedal. It's just a nasty intrinsic fault it seems along with the popping sound.

I have exactly the same problem, did you end up finding a solution adamscott? It's completely ugly and makes it impossible to use reverb out of the amp live.? It pretty much deems it useless altogether actually. Why on earth would Mesa do this? I love this amp, but this is a pretty stupid fault and I doubt something that was put in on purpose. Any suggestions??

Hey there. the reverb on my roadster is barely noticed, do you think the reverb tank is defective? also there's a volume swells from time to time, the damn thing sounds awesome but i don't know if? this is a general issue or it is just mine. by the way mine does not do pop sounds. Thanks.

Well thanks for elucidating this - Yes it does illuminate all channels. I originally got the amplifier sent back to Westside when? I played them this over the phone and had to wait two months for another one...Only to meet the same demon I suppose.

I take it that it is not supposed to be making that noise... Shame, becuase I think it sounds? good, and would work well as an ambient film soundtrack! :D
