In the US state of Florida, a foreign invader is causing alarm.
The Burmese python is one of the world's largest snakes, which are usually found in south-east Asia. Now the reptiles, which can grow to six metres long, are turning up in swimming pools and backyards.

French president visits Afghanistan

The new French president Francois Hollande has defended his decision for an early pullout of French troops from Afghanistan, during a surprise visit to the country.
Speaking at a press conference with his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai, Hollande asserted the task of fighting the Taliban was close to complete.

Baku police arrest opposition protesters

Tension's been rising ahead of Saturday's finals of the Eurovision song contest in the capital Baku.
