It's an instant light so you don't need to pre-heat the generator like that. Crank it over to high and listen for it spitting. The moment it spits, turn it off and put the flame to it. It will probably light but you can then turn it up slowly. Kind of feather it between low and high until it's stable, which should be a couple seconds. They are completely and easily repairable. I've used my Coleman 288 for almost 20 years. Recently bought the Dual Fuel 285, and while it is dual fuel,? it is not as bright as the 288 model. Ronson and Zippo lighter fluid contain naptha but they also have additives to reduce evaporation. Coleman fuel is pure naptha, but will evaporate rapidly. Only need to preheat the generator in temps below freezing, use fire paste from REI.
