The male rival comes right after the female one. His Pokemon are higher level than hers, but nothing too threatening if you've been level grinding (I haven't) and have a team with good type diversity. This battle takes place in a continuous Sandstorm; so unless you have a Pokemon that can change the weather, you'll have to deal with it.

As I'm about to leave the city, I encounter my female rival and battle her for the third time. That dog of hers has Take Down, which is pretty powerful this early in the game. Even though she started with the starter that is weak against the one you chose, she'll have the Elemental Monkey to back it up by now, so be careful.

-Go to the westward part of forest. Don't follow that guy who talks to you.
-That first Grunt likes to spam Sand-Attack; and he also has Torment to be extra annoying.
