Absolute rubbish! The 9th Australian and 2nd New Zealand Divisions are featured in the film: even "Monty" is shown wearing an Australian bush hat. And your comment about Anzacs being used as cannon fodder by the British Army is also rubbish, and dishonours the men from all over the Commonwealth who formed? the 8th Army.

Isn,t it amazing, history has been rewritten again,? there is no mention of the Anzacs who were normally sent into battle first and used as cannon fodder by the British army, as with most movies, only the facts have been changed to protect the guilty.

I haven't watched the film all the way through for some? time, but my father certainly appears at 37minutes 58 seconds; he is the officer carrying the pistol. A still picture from this section appears in many books about the war in the western desert, and I have seen it labelled as "Australian soldiers", or "South African soldiers". They were actually British soldiers from the 5th Battalion Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders.

I haven't watched the film for some time, but some of the re-enacted parts are pretty easy to spot: close-ups of soldiers advancing through smoke; gunner officers shouting "Fire" at the start of the El Alamein artillery barrage - that sort of thing. One scene my father used to talk about shows? infantrymen running past a wrecked German armoured vehicle, with a dead crewman hanging out of it. The "dead crewman" was one of my father's soldiers, smeared liberally in oil....

Well my grandfather fought in the WW2 also but in finnish military. Finland was an ally of Germany but no harm in that because from them Finland received some nice weaponry to fight against and off the russians. "We gave them a hell." Well? numbers and stats from finland vs russia in ww2 tells the truth, one may check wikipedia for that.

No, it was truly a United Nations coalition. The Russians suffered horribly...about 26 million dead. I believe the U.S. had 3/4 million. My father was a U.S. soldier (1941-45), and he enjoyed serving with troops of many different countries in the allied cause. If we had been able to keep that? allied spirit and cooperation after the war, we would be in a much better world now.
