I agree with you and think at least one of Harris' points is very weak: when he criticises the Christian doctrine for saving a rapist who repented before death... Harris makes it look like one could repent his horrific sins without any suffering, just to trick God and enjoy eternal Heaven. By the way, I find all this debate about absolute morality a bit volatile: ok, only a God could? give us absolute moral standards... and so what?

Is there any evidence for a God who is good? No, there isn't any. Actually, if he really existed then he'd be rather evil, because he obviously does not care about all the suffering by not doing? anything against tsunamis, earthquakes, famines, deseases, ... The basis of our well-being is always we ourselves and our needs. We do exist - no question, and by that ethical standards do exist and are empowered. Poor USA - still being stuck in debating objective morals (of an imaginary God)!

I think the real problem here is the difference in the goals between atheism and Christianity. Christianity's basis for morality being that God is good, knows what is good, and the goal is to believe in him. Atheism, on the other hand, as Harris is suggesting, I think avoids the subjectivity of the morality of an act (is something truly wrong or truly right) and focuses on the goal that he explains as a? state of best well-being. These differences being different 'definitions' of morality.

What is GOD ? Bible : John 4:24 "... God is a Spirit... John 10:34 "Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are gods’?" Psalm 82:6 I said, "You are? gods, And all of you are sons of the Most High."

Keep in mind that you are not the target audience of this debate. Dr. Craig and Dr. Harris are extremely intelligent individuals that are speaking to what I would assume is an extremely intelligent audience in the subject matter of philosophy and theology. I believe it would be a mistake to assume that Dr. Craig is using "big" words to? make himself appear smarter.
By: Astrogod07. on 08 May 12, 16:51:47
I feel like Craig tries to make arguments in some kind of philosophical pseudo-language and tries to squeeze in as many big words as possible. Now, I actually usually prefer high-level conversation with big words, but I feel like? Craig just ends up clouding his argument behind a thick layer of impenetrable rhetoric.

hmm. much as I wanted to watch this and laugh at craig, what the heck is harris doing?! I've seen him give this exact same speech elsewhere. At least on first listen, it's as? if he's not addressing craig's points but just coming up with stuff he prerehearsed. Could have done much better here.
By: chaosligth. on 27 Apr 12, 14:19:52
in the beginning i actually was listening to craig? but when he said the same frase for 1000 time i kinda think he lost me, hes going in circles not aying anything really.

If your still religious after listening to Harris,Hitchens or Dawkins then there is simply no? hope for you.Brainwashing has done a number on your reasoning ability regarding superstition.
By: Angaraman. on 13 Apr 12, 18:14:12
@1:26:28 the circularity of the? reasoning here actually caused me PHYSICAL PAIN.

"The Moral Landscape"? was a horrible book.
By: AgeOfReasonXXI. on 18 Apr 11, 15:45:01
you gotta love Craig's silly expression when Harris said "I tried to give you a basis, sorry!" which was another way of saying "sorry that you're so retarded and slow to grasp what I'm saying, faith-head. you may keep repeating that I haven't provided a basis for morality, like a mantra, all you want, it doesn't? make it any more true." haha Billy Lame was OWNED.
By: allankohwt. on 18 Apr 11, 11:10:25
If God exists, God create the world, then who create God?? My guess is, God are created by Human in return. Then, if God lay down the moral values, indirectly, the moral values? of God, are actually create by human. This is the greatness of human mind. Then, why human want to create God?? Because, it is a good tools to control the human mind.
By: tabrizi79. on 13 Apr 11, 08:09:56
Notice that this isn't really a debate. Harris systematically avoids? addressing Craig's arguments and answering his rebuttals. Instead, he changes the subject to Tsunamis. This is proof that Harris is extremely poor when it comes to philosophy, and that he ultimately got creamed in the debate. This was really humiliating for Harris.
