There is a great documentary on rap/hip hop in the 90s, and how it thrived, but after all the lawsuits over sampling, it's just not the same. "Fear of a Black Planet", and "3? Feet High and Rising" for me was the peak.

Probably meant that De La is underrated and mostly unknown to the kids today. I was born in 1993 and none of my peers have heard of De La. Actually? most of them have no idea of hip-hop history and probably think it was 50 cent or Eminem who invented rap music

I agree music especially rap is dead... but there? are still some groups who sample, like Ugly Duckling.

The magic number was the number of? samples that "3 feet high and rising" took. It was the last time rap/hip hop was able to sample. Music is dead.

If they wasn't no De La there would have never been no OutKast no Pharcyde or Souls of Mischief, heck even the Black Eye Peas. Mary J Blige once stated that De? La Soul was a big influence. Hip hop and rap music would have been a different landscapeif it wasn't for them. De La Soul introduce the skit to hip hop then the remix long before Diddy or Jermaine Dupree had record deals.
