Active duty contracts depend on MOS and you are right, Army can go from 2-6 years. I spent the first 9 months of my 5 year active contract in basic,? AIT, Airborne, and Special Operations training, but it still all counted toward my 5 year active commitment, and I enlisted while still in school, so i was on DEP for 9 months before basic which reduced my IRR to 27 months after I ETS'd.
